Artist statement

I am Yinglian-Jessica Huynh.

In my painting I look for quiet, for a place where the eye can breathe.
Working in layers of acrylic and raw, spontaneous brushwork, I explore
atmosphere, light and the emotional weight of colour. I work mostly in
blues, tones that call up water, air and distance.

Each picture begins with a feeling I want to set into space: a state between movement and stillness. Painting is, for me, both making and escaping — an attempt to translate sensation into space and quiet.

02

Practice

The work is built in layers. Acrylic allows fast overpainting, and that is precisely the appeal: what lies underneath stays present without staying visible. The brushstroke is left raw, the edge unsmoothed.

Landscape is a starting point, not a depiction. The subject is less a particular place than the state a place produces — distance, light, air in motion, the falling away of noise.
